Nate Smith just posted the first route of the season on his Instagram ( instagram.com/pullphoto)

That being said let the conversation begin, what routes are in?

There is a beautiful band of ice forming under Center Chute on the American Fork Twin peaks at Snowbird.

Probably the most ice in Utah right now.

Large ice flow under Center Chute on the American Fork Twin Peaks on 10-5-2014

Nate went up and re-did his new route and posted pics on his twitter feed. I also saw some photos of ice in Hyalite (kind of far...kind of).

Has anybody else heard of any other early season ice being in?

Was up on Hidden Peak at Snowbird today working and the ice under Center Chute appears to have thickened considerably and it is visible all the way from the parking lots in the base area.

However currently the tram is closed for public which would lead to a 2500+ foot hike to the ice. BUT on OCT 25+26 snowbird has their customer appreciation days and the tram will be loading public.

If someone is looking for ice in Utah this is probably the best there is right now.

We (@NateSmith and I) went and did it... The ice had good adhesion and was in plastic condition. The only real problem was the return trip. The Tram was out so we had a 4 mile hike out.

Nice pics on the climb.

What gear did you use? Screws or did you place any of the rock gear you brought?

Personally I'm not much of an ice climber, I've been a few times and would like to more but mainly wanted to let the true Ice Climbers know about the ice.

Glad it sounds like you had fun.

There was a warm wind so the route is likely to change... That said, we placed all screws all the way to the top (I think 6-7 total). At the top, where it was thickest Nate placed a 20 cm ('Grandpa') Screw, last one on the rack. However, the rest of the route was fine to take 12's and 16's.

Nate led it with what we had, which were almost all shorty's and 'Super Stubby's'.

Chadnuesmeyer: Did you guys rap the route or continue to the top? What is the decent beta if any?

Thanks!

Jonathon

Shameless plug, I listed a bunch of ice gear for sale in FS section of the forum: goo.gl/RYIIjq

Listed are my Nomics, Scarpa Plastics, DMM Fly's...

Anyone interested in checking out the Amercan Forks Twin Peaks ice flow this Tuesday 11/11?

Ty Falk · · Huntington, VT · Joined Nov 2011 · Points: 280

Any updates. We have had some cold temps and snow latily. Anyone venture up to the bird to see if the rookie party was still in?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
