looking to climb in OK for a day, hopefully the witchitas because I hear they are gorgeous.

Looking to climb on the 27th (Monday).

If I can't find a partner here on MP, could someone at least tell me if its worth showing up, or will no one be there on a Monday in late October?

Also, where is a good place to camp (hopefully for free!) in the Wichita area?

Cheers

The Witchitas are wonderful this time of year. Finding a partner on a Monday might be a little tricky, the few weekdays I have been down always seem pretty empty of climbers. You might get lucky later in the day at Mt. Scott.

As for camping you have a few options (none really free).

1. Dorris Campground (Inside the refuge, pull up car and semi-primative camping $8-$10, finding a spot on Sunday night or a week night should not be a problem)
2. Charon's backcountry (This is the cheapest if you're setup todo back country and there are permits available, its $2 a person, call to e Ranger to see if they have spots open. They only allow 10 in a period)
3. Lake Lawtonka (right outside the Refuge, ~$7 for primitive, does not care about alcohol like inside the Refuge at Dorris)

If you find a partner, be sure to checkout the Narrows.

I see people top rope soloing at crab eyes pretty regularly. If you have the equipment and know-how that could be an option. You might also call Rocktown Climbing Gym and ask around for partners.

If your ever in OK the place to go is Quartz.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
