I'm headed up to Strawberry hot spring this weekend up near Steamboat and was wondering if there was any worthy trad climbing up there. Within a couple hours is good and the longer the better.
Alternatively, any other areas in Colorado where hot springs and trad climbing coexist ? Would love to hear about less crowded areas that allow camping.
We had a good time at the Needle at hole in the wall canyon last month. It's a little ways out of steamboat and only a couple pitches but its still pretty cool and there is good camping in the meadow out there. The approach is probably 40 minutes to the base of the needle, after nearly an hour drive from downtown steamboat.
Not all trad areas but Glenwood Springs and lava caves near Glenwood Canyon, Rifle and Independence Pass, Waunita hot springs in Gunnison, Dakota hot springs near Shelf.
Crowds all depend on time of year and if you can avoid weekends. There is Falcon guide out there that lists all the good hot springs, over 50 of them in the state with Strawberry, Glenwood, Valley View, and Conundrum being the most idyllic spots.

Ouray is really nice and not crowded this time of the year - 3 hot springs to choose from. There is some trad climbing right in town or 5 minutes of driving outside of town. Or you can climb in the Black (2 hour drive).
