Hi there,

I'm new to living in Eugene. I am looking for a climbing partner to share gas costs with on climbing trips to Smith, Trout Creek and other climbing areas in NW Oregon. I just got the NWOR book and would like to check out some of the climbs put here. I've got a double rack and can climb 5.10 on trad and sport. leading 5.9.

Cheers,
Alex

I live in Lebanon, and am always looking for someone to head to smith with on the weekdays.

I just moved to Eugene as well, and don't have a partner. I've got plenty of free time at the moment and a decent sized rack. (nuts, hexs, tricams and a double rack medium cams) I checked out Skinner Butte Park yesterday and it looked interesting, but kinda small. anything else nearby to Eugene?

Glad I saw this thread. Relatively new to the area and getting back into climbing after some injuries. I don't really know any climbers in Eugene. Will be at Crux tomorrow, Smith on Sunday, probably Crux on Monday. I work an unconventional schedule and am often available to climb during the week and about every other weekend. I'm a traddie at heart but have been known to clip bolts and boulder as well.

Cheers!

Alex,
I'll be out in the Portland/Willamette Valley(including extensive time in Eugene) area starting in December and into spring for work. I'd be interested in Smith or Trout trips, or even longer trips up to Vantage. Also down to climb indoors. Full rack, rope, etc. 5.10ish. Flexible schedule. Lets get out!

Hey all!

I'm an hour south of Eugene and would be down to climb anywhere in Oregon between now and the middle of January. Would be willing to make the drive up to Portland area crags or out to Smith. Have a 60m and a sport rack, but down to trad too if you've got a rack. Getting over a blown tendon but will lead 5.10ish.

There's nothing established more nearby than e.g. the Callahans. That said, there's a fair bit of exposed rock up towards Oakridge. That said, the southern Willamette Valley is pretty much a dead end for rock climbing. You'll encounter stuff similar to Iron Mountain (near Portland), but that makes the Columns seem huge.

There's a lot of alpine stuff within 2 hours of Eugene, including some ice that forms up a little bit upstream of Salt Creek Falls in the Diamond Creek drainage. If you see more than 7 days of daytime highs belows freezing at the Salt Creek Falls Snotel, its almost certainly in. Its about 130' of WI2-3.

Has anyone climbed at hills creek spires? How do you approach the crags ?from the top? Thanks

I moved up here from woodfords cal. So I enjoy obscure crags.

I'll be checking on Hills Creek Spires this weekend so hopefully I remember this post and can put in my two cents. I was told it can be loose in areas, but since there was a decent number of routes put up, I suspect it's not that bad.

As far as developed crags near Eugene, don't forget Flagstone, Moolacks, and Wolf Rock. There's also obscure and somewhat forgotten areas such as the Armpit crag (roadside crag on the northside of Lookout Point reservoir on the way to Oakridge, crack and sport routes) and Little Machu Picchu.

Some new development has been going on in the North Umpqua area east of Roseburg. One place thats absolutely worth a look in that area is McKinley Rock. Think slightly smaller Wolf Rock with better rock quality.

If anybody wants to get climby with it in the Flagstone,Moolacks,Hills Creek areas, give me a shout. I just moved to Lowell which is halfway to Oakridge. Partners are hard to find when the neighbors are either goats or meth heads.

I live in Eugene and am looking for climbing partners for local stuff (columns/flagstone/callahans/acker/etc.) and trips over to Smith. Please let me know if you need a partner.

I no longer live in the area, but there is a new crag that has been being developed, and is worth going to if you live in Eugene.

Anyone who's either keen on Moolack or FAs on the local rocks should contact me ASAP.

Just came across this forum. I am moving to Eugene in May and am looking for climbing partners. I currently live in Salt Lake City and lead 5.10s, low 5.11 sport. No trad experience yet but hope to learn. I have a small SUV that gets good mileage and will be more than willing to drive to crags around Oregon, including Smith rock. Please reach out.
