Overnight bivy spot between Pagosa and Durango?

O vast sea of MP knowledge -

I am going to be passing through Pagosa/Durango area, and need a place to sleep for the night. I'm thinking a forest service road where I can pull off, maybe pitch a tent, get my forty winks, and be on my way in the morning. Don't need any facilities, but don't want to be running afoul of the law, either.

Can anyone point me towards such a spot between Pagosa and Durango? Specific directions appreciated: I'll be trying to find it in the dark.

Many thanks.

If you can find/have a map, check out the turn onto the Piedra river road that will be on your right when you are headed towards Durango from Pagosa. I've never seen it during the summer, but I believe you drive a few miles down that road and you'll see a pullout. There is even a full campground, but you could get away with some of the pullouts.
Hope this helps, sorry it's not more specific!

The best spot is along the river on FR 166 just before the river and 168 for the road to Lower Piedra Campground. Funny, but I was just thinking of this question as I drove this stretch of road on Monday. There are other spots along Hwy 160 before it that would be ok if you get far enough off of the road. Let me know how it is. Thanks!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
