Hi there! I am planning to visit Italy in October, was wondering if anybody would be interested in climbing - I am an American with four years experience trad/sport climbing, a very safe belay, speak French also.

Thanks!

I'm an American in the military, stationed in Sicily. I'm an experienced sport climber, as well. I'd like to work on trad. I have a modest rack. Would love to hook up with ya! I have my own gear. I haven't any French skills.

Let's do it. I'll PM you. Samina here is MIA--never got a reply from her.

By the look of your profile, you're quite new to this network. PMs won't be accessible on here. You'll have to go to whatever e-mail account you registered with.

The next time I'll be available, most likely, is the weekend following the 14th of November. I'm down to climb anywhere in or near the province of Catania during the week after 4pm. There are a couple of crags about 1 hour south of me in Brucoli, however, I've only been to one.

I will be here Nov. 14th but probably somewhere in Slovenia or Alto Adige. It might be too cold by then to climb.

Hey Paul, I'm about to PCS to Naples in June2015. How long will you be in Sicily? I sport climb and I'm looking to get into trad as well. I have a pretty decent rack started. Message me back if you're still looking for a climbing partner.

Whaddup, Mowgli? Tell me about your experience.

I've done some traveling outside of the Naples area. There are some easily-accessible crags 2-3 hours outside of Naples. I have the "A Sud" guide, which covers southern Italy. The boot heel is remarkable for deep water soloing. It takes an hour to fly to Naples from where I live, near Catania.

Counting the days down before PCSing. Paul, any gear purchase recommendations before i leave the states?

Sweet dude! I'm anxious to hit the rock with a serious and motivated climber! I wanna bag some multipitch routes! I assume you have a rope, some quickdraws and trad gear. I have a dozen or so cams in different sizes from maybe 1/4" to 3", a rack of nuts, 13 quickdraws. I have some specialized gear on the way, such as a foot ladder, and a fifi hook. And I'm equipped for multipitch sport routes. I haven't lead any trad pitches, but wanna get to that level with a competent, trustworthy belayer.

I know a dude living in Gricignano Di Aversa that would love to hook up with you/us.

Mowgli-- searching your name on Facebook returns no results.

Ive got two ropes, tons of slings, a 60ft section of static, plenty of quick draws including apline draws, ive got a few cams (but i will def buy more before i come out), i have a set of tricams, set of nuts, some hexes, a grigri, i also just bought two ascenders, and i have tons of different types of biners. Im very well set up for sport multi pitch and mixed sport, trad multi pitch.

Dude im pumped. multi pitch is definitely my favorite climb. I really wanna get some deep soloing done as well. Ive done some and loved it.

Getting a group together would be awesome.

Looks like you're squared away, gear-wise. I hope you've got your anchor-building techniques on lock down and you're bold enough to get me outta my timid cell, when it comes to leading with trad gear only lol!

I HAVE been deep water soloing in the Mediterranean. Tis a good time! I'm also a SCUBA diver. So if there's any doubt, I can sink 'n scan for any dangerous areas that lurk beneath.

Haha i will definitely start rereading and practicing all my anchor skills. Dude we will get up some solid stuff no worries. Im feeling confident and Ive been making some solid progression lately. Been climbing a ton outside and hitting the gym too for the harder work outs. Its time to push hard and really get out and challenge myself.

Are there any cams you recommend for the rock out there? Im about to throw down on some serious gear. Here are my top choices:

outdoorgearlab.com/Climbing…

Everything i read always comes back to these popular choices. Got the c4 on lock down, having trouble deciding between a small cam rack.

I dive too, you do any good dives in the Mediterranean yet?

I haven't had a preference for brands of gear when it comes to preparing my rack in preparation for different scenarios. Just been concerned about getting sizes that I don't already have at the cheapest price. I've gotten several pieces of used gear. That is a very helpful guide, though! I'll refer to it when making future purchases. Thanks for sharing.

I've gone diving with Dive Catania during the summer in Giardini Naxos. The water was awesome and the obstacles made it fun. There's also some deep water soloing in the same area and a sea side sport crag that hangs out over the water. And there are a few other crags around that area, all within a half hour of that place.

Well. Now it's February. Do tell if you got some good tales of climbing! Sitting in NY I wish I was in Italy! We already have three trips planned for March and April, but want to hear of warm Italian climbing!

Who's this keithconn? This is the first time your name has appeared in this thread. The other person who said anything about moving to Italy in February was Mowgli. Is this one person with two different screen names? Anyway, about the climbing--the crags here are plentiful! Lots of challenges!

Just someone who wanted to hear if you ever had an adventure or not after reading the exchange of posts here. No big one!
