$5.75 is a rip-off. Just judging from the picture, the holes look smaller than the ones for 1/2". They probably mean they fit if you take the bolt apart and fit the hanger between the sleeve, not really recommended. Personally, I would just get the regular 1/2" SS ones and throw some primer on them and let it dry well before you take them to the crag. fixehardware.com/shop/hange…

+1 I do this all the time unless I find a screaming deal on the pre-coated hangers. Be sure to use primer paint (as suggested) as it sticks much, much better than non-primer paint. And definitely paint the hangers before placing them.
I just use a coat or two of the primer paint and don't bother with a finish. The gray or red/brown primer works great and lasts pretty well on the hangers. I've tried non-primer paint once and the stuff just flaked off even before I got the hangers out of the bag and on the rock.
