Five Ten Galileo - What's a Comparable Shoe?

Hey all, been climbing in the Five Ten Galileo shoe for close to ten years now but found out today that they were discontinued. Nightmare come true. :-( Anyone out there been a die hard Galileo user but switched to something else they found to be pretty comparable? The Evolv Pontas II seems pretty close but I have never climbed in them. Any suggestions are appreciated. THX!

Don't know what size you are, but if STP has your size you should act fast.

I spent some time this morning scouring the Internet for an online retailer with my size. I wear 7.5 and nobody has them! Only 7 or 8...or very small/large sizes. I DID find one pair at a place called Next Adventure based in Portland and bought them. However, I'd love to get 2 more pairs so I can give myself a few more years of Galileo pleasure.

why? Did they discontinue the galileo as well?

Have you tried the anasazi VCS with the Onyxx rubber?

yeah, when i noticed they were discontinued i ordered a bunch. i haven't really found anything with the same brutal edging power, and the blancos and pinks don't really fit me well for some reason. several of my friends have recommended the katana laces, but i haven't tried them yet.

it's kind of funny, i try to do my routes in my other shoes and save the galileos for when times get desperate and i absolutely need them.

Same boat here. Great shoe, total bummer about getting cancelled.
I just got my only pair back from Rock and Resole and they're pretty much like new,

so what's the fit like compared to other shoes? I wear 9.5 street and 9 in VCS, (white, pink, green) anasazis.

Apologies for drifting the thread further away from its intended discussion of Galileo alternatives, but I have a pair of 9.5 Galileos that are essentially new (worn once in a gym). Would love to sell them and clean out some space. Message if interested.

I would say they fit tight - but I am notorious for wearing shoes with tons of space. I wear a street shoe size 10.

If people find a good replacement, I would also like to know. What I found important about the Galileo not directly it's stiffness/edging, but that the toes were precise and powerful/focused without the need for a tight slingshot heel. I bought two pairs when I found they were being discontinued.

I never found shoes with the slingshot style heel comfortable, and as i've developed a slight Haglunds bump on my heel, it has become unbearable for a shoe to be tight there.

I have a 2 year old pair of Evolve Pontas, which I find to be similar, but narrower and a bit less stiff. If they fit your foot well, they may be a good replacement. (i got mine on closeout for $35, but got them half a size too small for me to wear for longer than a pitch, so i can't compare much)

If i had to buy a new pair today, i'd probably buy the stonelands. I didn't find them to edge as well, but they seemed to fit my foot well.

If you want to make your now-extinct Gilileos last, resole them *long* before you think it's time. If you wait, they won't climb the same after a resole, and you'll get one retread.

If you do it right and early, they'll climb pretty similar, and you'll get several resoles out of them.

That way you can put off finding your replacement shoe for a year or three.

Of course, it's not like it will be hard to find a replacement. I feel ya, but you *are* being a bit silly. There are a bazillion shoes out there today: another one *will* work just as well for you. :-)

I recently gave up a beloved pair of shoes I had bought many versions of. The reality was that the shoe was just a shoe: it wasn't amazing at all. I had just gotten used to it.

Stonelands slippers are being discontinued as well. Haven't tried the velcros but the slippers are great!

You are right, I will live when the time comes to find another shoe. :-) But breaking up can be hard to do. I am on a new pair of Galileos now which I will resole 1-2 times via Rock & Resole. Plus I have 2 more brand new pairs in the closet. Definitely good for a while, was just curious if anyone had made a successful switch. The 5.10 brand fits my feet the best and the Galileo was literally the first shoe I ever bought...still love them to this day.

Thanks everyone for weighing in.
