Sounds like a good time of year for Red Rocks.

I was (am) thinking of Bishop Calif.
(which some of us think is in driving range of Red Rocks NV).

Joshua Tree could work, but not as sport oriented. Is, also, driving distance (kind of) from Red Rocks.

I'd have thought Bishop was a bit more high altitude (though without checking) and would/might be a bit colder than Red Rocks at that time of year. Maybe two cold? Then again, I'm thinking of heading up into the Sierras from there, if you're looking at Owens River Gorge, or Alabama Hills, or similar, that's probably going to be pretty reasonable.

Bishop.... you can go up and down in elevation. This lets you pick your weather. Also, if you like alpine/mt climbing its permit free season.....

have a good vacation.

Here's what I found ...

Red Rocks Nevada (about 36 degrees North latitide) :
  • high point of paved loop road, altitude around 4750ft / 1450m.
  • top of Calico Hills about 4930ft, but likely most of the single-pitch climbing is around 4450ft / 1360m altitude.

Bishop California (about 37.4 degrees North latitide) :
  • city, altitide around 4150ft
  • Owens River Gorge (about 10 miles NW from Bishop) around 4900 ft
  • Pine Creek Canyon (which some people say has as much granite as Yosemite N.P.) . (about 15 miles WNW from Bishop) - around 6400 ft

Alabama Hills (near Lone Pine, CA) : (about 36.6 degrees North latitide) :
  • around 5350ft altitude.

Joshua Tree (about 34 degrees North latitide) :
  • altitude around 4280 ft / 1300m

So I'd say the altitude differences are not decisive. But JTree is significantly farther South than Bishop. And Las Vegas is closer driving to JTree than Bishop is. If you like the style of climbing at JTree. Myself I much prefer the climbing on granite and volcanic rock around Bishop.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
