Deep Water Bouldering in NH
Dave Wetmore's FA of Warhammer at the Lost River in NH... |
very awesome!!!!! |
yup DWB is where the sport is heading... |
After 5 years of climbing at Lone Rock Point on Champlain in VT I am a big fan of DWB. Does anyone know if Warhammer is on the only climbable boulder there? Does anyone know of any other DWB spots in New England? |

I suggest you check it out now before it gets colder. I moved away from the east coast so haven't been there in > 2 years so I don't know if the pool is still as deep but it used to be VERY deep. Never touched bottom from the one fall I took from the topout. Check it out! There is some potential (if you have a boat/raft) to start at the very bottom of the wall and add what looks to be harder than the upper crux. Could be a more direct finish too.Is this the same spot as the problem in the video? They look very similar... |
The video is from the same spot. I hadn't gotten around to watching it until now. The route I did traversed in from the right side of the wall because the water was higher when I did it in 2011. That traverse in wasn't possible then. His finish also went left, mine went right. But yea, same spot. |
On the video's page you claim to have prevously done Dave Wetmore's problem. But here you just say it is the same area? What's up? |
To clarify: the video of Warhammer is on the exact same wall that I got on a few years back (2011?). His route is different in that it starts traversing in from the left. I traversed in from the right and started the route a little higher because I did it in the spring when water was higher. Also, he finished to the left and I topped out to the right along the arete. His finish looks a bit harder than the way I exited. My way felt 5.11-. Does that clarify? |
Thanks for the clarification Matt, looks like a great spot. Is there potential for more problems (other than the center face) there? |
Yah! Up the river beneath the upper bridge (maybe no longer there) there is this overhanging prow feature that I did too! Shorter than the downstream wall for sure! I'll post pictures when I get home. |
A cool short prow upstream from the main wall. |

Putting this spot on the must-do list for next summer! |

What's access to this spot like? I couldn't find much online when I Googled "Lost River Gorge" except for this touristy looking spot findlostriver.com/. Is there public access to the climbing area? Any beta is appreciated. Thanks! |

There's more down river as well...we did some stuff there last year in the fall. There's some shorter very cool scooped and water worn compression stuff over deep pools just downstream. |

Can't wait to check this out next summer, thanks for the info! |
