Ohio - where to climb

Howdy folks. Transplanted from the Alberta Rockies for a couple of years and wondering where is decent to climb within a reasonable distance from Toledo (say 2hrs drive?). Found out about Peabody in Michigan and guessing that the Cleveland area has some decent sandstone crags. My 11 year old daughter has a budding vertical addiction that we would like to encourage on top rope, and caving sounds like it might be pretty fun here too. Too bad about the back country skiing. Any favourites anyone cares to share?

Planet Rock is an indoor gym, I believe in or near Ann Arbor. Whipps ledges is near Cleveland, probably about two hrs drive from Toledo. I don't know if it is worth the drive. mountainproject.com/v/whipp…

Justin,
The nearest places for outdoors roped climbing are Whipps Ledges and John Bryan State Park. I doubt you'd want to plan a weekend around either, but it is at least some rock.

Most Ohioans head to the Red for their real rock fixes. Its probably about 5 hours to Miguel's from Toledo--just fine for a weekend.

PM me if you have any Qs--I've got 4 kids who all climb, though they are a bit older than yours (13 to 17).

Matt.

There is not a lot of outdoor rock climbing in Ohio. Wipps Ledges near Hinckley (near Cleveland) has some. I believe rock climbing. In Indiana state parks is illegal.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
