Moving west, where should I live?

"Las Vegas is an outstanding place"- for (social)climbers /mis-adventurers.

"The city is not nearly as bad as some people think it is,".. It is WORSE!

and if you are in the bartending/service industry you can't do any better."
Or the sex industry?

"Red Rocks, of course, is terrific"-( except after rain when the rock is notoriously unsafe )

"It's got just about everything - from 1,000s of ( mediocre) long trad routes (desert alpine) to 1,000s of superb sport routs."( climbing isn't a "sport" , it is a state of being..

" Plenty of 1st ascents are still possible."= on dubious rock in a sucky environment

" Probably the best overall climbing venue in the US other than Yosemite. ( or East Side).

"You can climb almost all year long except summer" = mediocre
"even then you can do alpine starts to beat the heat"-= unpredictable

"or climb at Mt. Charleston which is ( im) perfect in the summer"..( or any other time ).

" It's only 2 hours from Zion, 4 hours from the Sierra Nevada, 4 hours from Joshua Tree, and a few hours from the Grand Canyon."= too long for a climber. Climbing is at the East Side Sierra - try 20 minutes?

".. an island of urban activity "= consisting of sleazy obnoxious smokers booze, whores, crime.

"surounded by an ocean of desert mountain wilderness."= with associated heat, wind, Cliven Bundys:

politicususa.com/2014/06/18…

" Las Vegas is truly one of the best adventure centers in the country."... If you consider booze, whores, crime, gambling and Bundys to be "adventure"...

The front range is a sh*tshow with everyone moving out here. Lived here for 8 years as of this month and the change is astronomical. I can only imagine what the natives think.

Everyone wants to move to CO. I've never lived in a place where you can meet a dozen people that just moved out here in a single night.

Hey Durango... See Scott's comment above. If you keep blowing up your town, it's gonna be Boulder in a number of years. It already happened to Golden.

Colorado sucks. Don't move here. It is really expensive, people are all high on weed, rich white folks dogs are treated better than the middle class, mexicans, or any other minority. Police beat the shit outta people leaving the bar for no reason, prob because they are high too. Pedestrians and cyclists get hit and run daily by uninsured motorists. This place is a total s--t show.

Move to Vegas.

Hey Schaps, you cetainly spent a lot of time proving that you just don't 'get' Red Rocks or Las Vegas. It certainly isn't for everyone, but neither is Yosemite/Boulder/Provo/Bishop etc... The seediness of Vegas is part of its charm (and it's not all seedy anyway). But that's not why climbers move there. Red Rocks is all charm. Climbing at Red Rocks can definitely foster a sublime 'state of mind'.

Adam B is right on here y'all.
Colorado now is basically comprised of lazy, unmotivated pot heads. The list goes on and on: poor hygiene and cleanliness, unable to perform daily functions like throwing away trash or brushing their teeth, crowded restaurants packed full of couples trying to impress each other with overpriced meals, glorification of dogs/cats, slow moving traffic
etc…. etc….

Messagae me when you make it down to HCR. I live a few hours away and know the area well.

Also, I would second SLC or Park City. Yes there are tons of Mormons and it may take a second to get used to, but honestly I never felt like it really changed anything. Salt Lake has tons of bars and lots of breweries popping up all around Utah. Personally I loved climbing the Cottonwoods and Ogden Canyon. I lived in Vernal and Grand Junction while I was out there and would definitely take SLC over GJ. Saying that, Grand Junction still has a lot going for it location-wise and I wouldn't be opposed to living there if that is where everything worked out to be.

Colorado and California both have tons of climbing .

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
