He/She username changer (whoever you are), next time your bored and reloading the front page, stick to the pictures.

I'll reiterate my point above more concisely. Misty Mountain can no longer make the harness pictured in the photos of this thread. This is unfortunate.

Hey Kirby,

Thanks, I'm aware of the slots, but their position so far back on the hip and underneath a gear loop makes me think they're unusable. I wouldn't try for myself and so not going to recommend for my gf. Bummer

Misty Mountain is awesome. My first Cadillac is in tatters, and I just bought my second.

Read your posts on a few different pages, sounds like you're a good truck, good hat, good extra 70 lbs havin', full-body harness-wearin', look-it-up-tellin' kinda sumbitch. Gawd bless. PS former professional arborist, certified rigger, and decade-plus climber here. Promise to try to scare up some basic understanding soon, you have my word. Tom, they make women's harnesses and offer ice clipper slots as an option. Sounds like exactly what you're looking for is available, minus that wish machine. So elusive these days. I'll post up porn pics if your lady asks me nicely after she's swanked out in a customized Misty and sends me pics, deal?
Haha.. I wish my family's compound in the Adirondacks would've got cable and internet installed sooner. This way I could get a chuckle outta your BS a couple days ago. I don't presume to know anything about you. I'm definitely not wasting my time looking at your personal page and previous posts so I can come up with ways to talk shit about you. All that is talk. You're really hurting my feelings with all that talk. PS, what's an arborist?

I've bought so many different Misty Mountain harnesses and loved them all. I'm military mountaineering and rock climbing instructor and we get all of our guys the Cadillac Tactical.... Simply badass!

Based on this thread and after looking at the harness available at local stores I decide to order a Cirque as my first harness. It arrived yesterday and it certainly looks like it will do it's job and do it well. It's what I imagined a harness should be before I ever got a close up look at one.

Just had a similar experience- I asked about a cadillac with a mix of quick-adjust and double-back buckles, and got a pretty dismissive response: "That would be cool but unfortunately we can't do it." That was the entire email. Kind of a bummer, sure hope (and assume from what I read here) that they're better with returns and warranty issues.

  • ^^^^see, REI? Ya see what you did? You kissed everyone in the outdoor sphere's ass for decades, and now everyone expects a handy and 30 minutes deep tissue massage when they drop a buck on a strawberry mangomelonmint clif shot.

Call those guys up and talk to someone about harness options. They've been super cool with me my entire climbiing career, if they can't hook up 15 simultaneous options at once, they will probably explain why and you'll have a better understanding and maybe better results than sending an impersonal email. I'm much nicer in person than to some random electronic list of demands, it'd be surprising if others weren't that way as well.

To all who've found anything to bitch about in terms of harness customization, I ask this: name 3 climbing harness companies that offer ANY harness options or special customization whatsoever. Safe Tech Waldo? You get to choose a size. Edelrid or Mammut? Men's or women's. Do the Dead Bird harnesses offer a choice of harness closure options? Fuck no.

So love Misty for what they are-a kick ass small company that offers the best harnesses in the world and even customization options in *some cases* to make sure those with mismatched waist/leg sizes get an amazingly comfortable fit, too. They even offer color options in some cases.

And you clowns are COMPLAINING about this? Unreal. Good luck learning Mandarin so you can beg Black Diamond "USA" for custom harness options. Perspective, folks.

Why dontcha just get the Caddy quick adjust, it's ALREADY double backed. It's kinda like deep frying an Oreo, WTF is the point, Oreo's already kick ass. The Caddy quick adjust is ALREADY a great harness, and you don't really need a combo of non-sense on it.

I described my experience as "a bummer" because Misty was the only company I had heard of that would do such a thing, thought I would share because it turns out they don't.

Your hyperbolic response about REI and learning mandarin doesn't add anything to the discussion. My one customer service interaction with BD was better than the one with Misty. I got told "no", in English, in both cases.

Again, no comment on the company or their products, just wanted to pass on that you might not get much traction with harness customization requests. Probably still going to get one of their harnesses.

I don't use any of the trendy social media programs, but starting to wish MP had a follow button for Zappy's posts. At first I thought you were a jackass but then I realized your just batshit crazy, and that's ok. I especially liked your latest contribution to Dumbest Outdoor Gear Purchase Well said! Had me dying laughing.

But in all seriousness you single handedly started and destroyed this "Misty Mountain Appreciation" thread. Mike H & I tried to contribute a criticism and the necessity you felt to debate our opinions inundated this thread with off topic ranting and bitching.

If zappy could lay one more internet burn on me and then no one else contribute any ranting until there are at least ten "love my misty" posts following maybe this thread could live up to what it was originally intended to be. Because to be honest... I am really impressed with the following expressed in this thread.

Mike h- we can't do a mix of buckle styles because the webbings are a different width. the quick adjust uses 1" web and the Double back uses 1 1/4" web.

Tom, we can't do ice clipper slots like you asked because we changed the way we make the gear loops. We changed the gear loops to make them stronger with a slight compromise to the ice slots, which now come as standard equipment.

I can't always type out a long explanation for everyone nor can we redesign our harnesses for the one special request. We do what we can to try and make everyone happy, all the while recognizing that isn't going to be possible.

I have to admit that I got a laugh out of this: "Good luck learning Mandarin so you can beg Black Diamond "USA" for custom harness options." sorry, but I thought that was funny.

We certainly love all of the accolades you guys have given us and don't mind the criticisms either. Also, I will try to explain things better in my future e-mail responses.

Thanks
Mike Grimm

Mike, you guys are so far ahead of the pack in terms of harness design, materials, and customer service, it's been tripping me out to read niggling criticisms stemming from some illusion that Misty is a tiny custom shop that should design a unique harness unrelated to your product line for any Joe Six Pack who would be just as happy getting chafe scars from some mass-produced crapshoot from the 'big names'.

Glad you liked my Mandarin joke. I like and use a lot of BD's products, but I felt (as usual) that my point is best and most memorably made with some sarcasm.

Tom, thanks for the batshit crazy remark. Your mother.

No, that's an abolitionist!

Tom Sherman, Hey, I was thinking about your problem or lack there of. Could you order the Misty Mountain harness you're thinking of and try it on. Tell the guys at MM that you might return it if the ice clipper slots don't sit where you're comfortable racking screws. You ever know maybe once your girl tries one on the harness will end up working out.. if not, Misty knows the harness may be coming back.

Just thought I would BUMP this thread! I am about to buy my first MM Cad Harness and I would like to ask the veterans:

Should I buy the Quick adjust or the regular Cadillac?

Thanks!

I like the regular, but YMMV.

I really like my Sonic!

Comfortable for sure. Customer service has been top notch. Made in the U.S.A. Arrived at my home in a nice box that my wife uses to store some type of girly stuff in.

What more do you need?

Edit to add:
I've never had an issue with the speed buckles on my Sonic. I thought I would try something new with this one. Everything works as designed, but I believe the next replacement will be the non-speed buckle. Just my preference, but I like the double back. Have to go with NC Rock Climber on this.

I got the traditional version. Happy so far.
