"When is the best climbing season at XXX?" is always a top question. Now MP has the answers!

Area pages on MP now have a "Climbing Season" chart showing you the peak climbing time. For example, you can use these to find out the best season for all of Eldorado Canyon in Eldorado Canyon bakes in the summer, and you can see the July/August dip in the chart below.

But right across the creek, the north-facing Bastille remains cool and in top form through the toasty season, but is generally too cold in winter.

Check out more Climbing Season charts at these top destinations:
Yosemite Valley
Joshua Tree
Indian Creek
Red River Gorge
The Gunks

And this month's Factoid shows some areas with the longest and shortest climbing seasons.

Nice feature.

Iím curious about what the graph is based on: frequency of ascents, simple meteorological criteria, an algorithm using meteorological data, precipitation patterns, area administratorís opinion, apparel of climbers, or other? Given the differences in cliff orientation with consideration of sun/shade at different times of the day, and throughout the annual cycle, this could get complexÖ.

What is the graph based off of? Temp? Precip? Number of ppl in the area? Bugs? Traffic? Maybe keep the green line. Then have a red line for temp and a blue line for precip? You can list the temps down the left side and the temps down the right side? Otherwise this is pretty arbitrary.

By the looks of the Gunks graph, I'm guessing this is based on MP "ticks". Obviously that's not perfectly correlated with "best" climbing season, but it's probably a good proxy.

The incorrect smoothing for Dec and Jan was bugging the crap out of me, and it's finally fixed.

And for those that asked, temperature and precipitation numbers will come soon.
