This is a male infested web site , hmm for such a supposedly counterculture activity it is sure reflective of the classic male dominated social strata inherent within society. Having said that where all ladies at I need some back up !!! |

According to Quantcast MP is 75/25% male/female. And climbers, at least those using MP, are hardly counter-culture (and I doubt there have been any such claims). That same link shows that, compared to average, climbers are significantly more educated and have a higher income than normal. |

Nick, whatever the member demographic is, the regular posters are almost entirely men; which makes perfect sense given the standard treatment of women around here. shoot, mp has made real progress, we typically make it to the second page of a woman's call for female partners before the guys start chiming in. |

Regardless of the percentage of M/F here, this site is not the most welcoming for women, and from my observations (as a male, granted) definitely has a more unawaredly sexist atmosphere even then, say, rockclimbing.com back in its heyday. |

There is one part of MP where the ratio of males to females is decided less unbalanced - photos of climbers. But to be fair, over-representation can be found there not just for women but also for very young climbers and even very old climbers. |

I'm a girl. I post here not entirely infrequently. I mainly use the site to find used gear and partners. Both have worked extremely well for me. I actually don't feel like it's an unfriendly environment to women at all. Perhaps sometimes it is generally unfriendly, but that's the internet for ya! |

I too have not found the site unfriendly to women. I am a female administrator, and while there are invariably differences of opinion, gender, as far as I could tell, has not been an important factor in any of those I have been a party to. However, I would not be surprised if a woman who is so unfriendly toward men as to use the term "cock infested" would find men less friendly toward her. I too tend to be prejudiced against those prejudiced against me. |
