Yeah, I am a fan of gyms for training, and understand that our society of litigation has made their line of business a bit frustrating, so many come up with various ways to "ensure" safety. Thankfully my local gym simply drapes a static rope around a large-diameter barrel-anchor (with a bar welded across the top to keep the rope) and you choose which side of the rope you climb on, loans out GriGris and even lets me use my own Smart Alpine too.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
