Welcome to Northeastern Oregon, where the men are men, so are the women, and the sheep are nervous. So pack yer Wellingtons.

Now for a bit of history, Baker ain't been Baker for some 20 years. It is now Baker City. Next there ain't no Eagle Peak Wilderness, there is an Eagle Peak but that is over by John Day. There is an Eagle Cap Wilderness.

There is some good granite in them thar hills. Get Tim Olsen's book as it is the most accurate and complete for the published climbs in Eastern Oregon (Do not buy the piece of crap book for Oregon published by Falcon), the Mtner Guide is okay but not complete as it is for 5.10 and under).

The closest granite is up at Anthony Lakes. Some boys from LaGrande put most of the routes. But others have contributed. Ski the ramps if yer feeling burly.

If you want to get on some fun but short basalt check out High Valley. A couple of roughens who have contributed to the climbing world cut their teeth on these crags.

I have heard good things about Hells Canyon basalt but have never had the chance to poke around as it was developed more recently than my past doings.

If you get into the Wallowas proper there are some lines but yer going to need to drive by Enterprise to get in.

Check out brew pubs they serve some good beer.

Hells is fantastic limestone. Burnt River is probably the closest climbing.

Have you been to Baker City? It is a small conservative town.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
