101 areas in the US to climb at before you die

"COLORADO |

Don't think the Flatirons should be on the list either. The amount of quality routes in the Flatirons is just as numerous as Eldo (with potential for far more), and far exceeds Penitente. Rifle and Shelf Road are both choss pile of different difficulty, most climbers would only need to choose one or the other. South Platte should be a top 5 destination in CO, not a marginal one. |

I love that my fellow north carolinians have kept quiet on this thread. |

List updated. Now it includes 100 areas. |

I've got 27 checked not including any "contenders" Fremont Canyon, Foster's and Deep creek are just not worthy of the list. Places I love, no doubt, but they are just not destination worthy. I second a vote for City of Rocks NM. Place is crazy and the camping experience cements my vote. Perhaps Vantage, WA should get a nod as well as Skyland Boulders in Crested Butte, CO |

There is no climbing in New Mexico . |

Sandrock makes the list for Alabama but HP40 gets a maybe? |
|
How is Shelf Road only a "contender" in CO?? |
|
Ryan Watts wrote:Sandrock makes the list for Alabama but HP40 gets a maybe? Not sure if troll.Because I have never been even remotely close to either place and have no idea what they're like. Someone mentioned Sandrock. No one else has mentioned HP40. I remembered it and thought it should have been on the list, so I added it as a contender. Ryan Derrick wrote:How is Shelf Road only a "contender" in CO??Because none of you Colorado climbers have mentioned it. Not my fault. Anyway, I updated the list. It's now hit 101, so to add more, some are going to have to come off of the list. |

Some comments... Tristan Higbee wrote: Because I have never been even remotely close to either place and have no idea what they're like. Someone mentioned Sandrock. No one else has mentioned HP40. Sandrock gets a lot of traffic....but it's mostly regulars, locals, and the weekend mob from Atlanta that visit. Further, Sandrock is a poor representative for the sort of practices that should be promoted in the interest of conservation. Of the areas on the list for Alabama, Little River Canyon is by far the most expansive, high quality, scenic, and varied. Also..... Tallulah being ranked below Rocktown is pure blasphemy. Rocktown is a swell bouldering area, but Tallulah offers some of the most airish and high quality stone in the SE. mountainproject.com/v/tallu… |

You skipped Vermont! Certianly the climbing here is better than in Mass. |
|
I've climbed at 35 as it stands now. Gotta vote for one from my home state MN. Palisade Head, great climbing in a unique setting. |

HP40 is a top bouldering destination for people from all over. Sandrock...I went there once when I lived in Atlanta. Never went back. I'd put stone summit gym above that place. Tallulah vs rocktown...kinda hard to compare. I'd say they both make the list. |

Nothing in MA qualifies. I'd also be inclined to cut Pawtuckaway NH, unless the boulderers really want to argue for it. The roped climbing is nice, but not list-worthy. |
|
America's Sea Cliffs deserve a special mention: Redwood Coast, North Shore, Acadia... |
|

Matthias Holladay wrote:America's Sea Cliffs deserve a special mention: Redwood Coast, North Shore, Acadia... +1 Acadia |

T Wall is on the list, I don't think Foster Falls or Sunset Park deserve a spot. For TN. I'd say you include it, the Obed and Stone Fort, those three deserve to be in the presence of these other areas. I don't think fosters or sunset really do |
