Where can I find out about newer quality routes that have been put up within the last 10 years? I have done the older classics which are fun but seem hopelessly crowded. Haven't locals pioneered some new classics (5.9 to 5.11)? There is so much rock out there!

How can I avoid the poke around research and search for new routes? I am hoping to harness the power of the internet and this website.

Not quite what you want, but this link might help get you started - Red Rocks routes added to this site in the last year.

Selecting "Type > First Ascents" should help as well.

Thanx that helped find some interesting new routes that are out-of-the-box. Is there a way to search by rating? Being able to eliminate all no star, one star, two star routes would leave a nice collection of reviewed routes.

Gordon,

The Jerry Handren guide is as good of a resource as any for some of the neo-classics, and even some classic older routes that were not included in previous guidebooks. In many cases the FA name and date are not listed, due to the sensitive nature of access in the area as it relates to bolting (ie: not permitted in wilderness areas - ie: the canyons) and so many of the newer routes authored post-Handren will not be found in the database here, at least with a FA party attached, due to this as well.

Hope that helps.

Have you tried the route database search function? Link:

Route database search

You cannot search according to date of first ascent, but at least you can select a search for routes of high quality (star rankings). In the range you specified, there are many dozens of good routes in Red Rock. Here is a list of 3+ star trad routes from 5.9 to 5.10d...

List of high quality 5.9 to 5.10d trad routes in Red Rock

A good rule to go by when determining the popularity of a route is to see how many votes a route has gotten - ie., Epinepherine has gotten 313 votes and Chicken Lips has gotten 7 votes. One is obviously going to be more crowded than the other...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
