Thanks Michael. Any recommendations for other camping areas?

Find one of the forest service roads (6nXXX up there I think), and camp alongside. Probably a mile down I50. I think its even in the SuperTopo.

Anyone know if Wrights Lake road is open yet?

I was there on Sunday and the campground was closed, so we just had to park a bit further away.
We asked people at the Strawberry lodge, and they invited us to park in their lot.

According to the automated campground info at the Placerville Ranger District (530-644-2324 x2 x1) Lover's Leap campground is now open. See ya there!

Just drove up tonight to find the gate still closed. I should have listened to the nice fellow at the Strawberry general store who told me the campground wasn't open when I called. Oh, well.

Damn Renzo, I'm sorry about that. I hope you were able to find a place to stay nearby and get some good climbing in. I guess it's better not to trust recorded messages :-/

I just got off the phone with an actual ranger. They are working on getting the campground open and it sounds like there is a very good chance it will be open by this weekend.

The owner of the strawberry store is a real bad ass. He's a climber and totally in touch with the scene, give him a call to see and sample some amazing beers on your way by!

Twas' covered in snow, lots of snow at that, last Saturday…….with the temps as they are it's probably wet.

No worries, camped off 42 mile tract. Conditions were mint today, t-shirt temps even in the shade. Some seepage on main wall and lower buttress but nothing that would interfere with the climbing.

Definitely a fan of the Strawberry general store folks. They used to own the Rocknasium in Davis and their gear store has the best selection around. Be sure to stop by on your way through: pet the cat, say hello, and drink a beer or buy a cam.

I called them a week ago and suggested that they fix that message. The guy I spoke to told me to call back on Thursday (that'd be April 24) to see if the campground was opened. He said they were planning to open it last week but had some cleaning, water testing, etc. to take care of first.

I guess they didn't open after all?

I spoke to a ranger this morning who said they opened it yesterday. Bathrooms and garbage cans are available, but running water is NOT currently working due to an issue with the pipes which they are still working on. I will be there this weekend!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
