I'm visiting family in New York next weekend and hope to squeeze a day in the Gunks. Although I grew up in New York, I didn't start climbing till I moved to Colorado 20 years ago. I've been climbing (mostly trad in eldo, south platte, utah desert, etc) for nearly 20 years. I would be psyched to get a day or a half day in the Gunks. I prefer someone that is experienced, competent with gear, belaying, safety conscious, etc. The grade is not that important to me. I would be happy climbing 5.7 to 5.11. I realize that Gunks has a reputation of being harder than other areas. I could bring a full rack or a rope or both on the plane if need be. I'll be staying in Westchester but I have a ride.
Maybe you will visit Colorado in the future and I could return the favor.
Thanks for looking,
Greg

If you are accustomed to Eldo I think you will find that the climbing style in the Gunks is not the same but shares a certain affinity with what you're used to. Grades too. Just my opinion from my limited experience in Eldo.
Right now, it looks like me and my hubby will be around that weekend, and we are both off the 18th as well. We have rack and rope. I can't lead right now (pregnant), but he leads into 9s and follows harder.
Providing the weather holds, we are usually out any day we are not at work, so shoot me a PM if interested.
