The inside word is that Petzl is apparently going to buy out BD. Sea2Summit apparently is in the know and has told distributors that the buyout is imminent. Anyone know anything more? I cant find anyone that can confirm first hand.

I have a high-level contact at Petzl and can "unofficially" confirm this. Word is that it could happen as soon as the end of this year.

maybe they'll consider moving some of their operations back from China since they will own the market

Black Diamond Equipment or the whole publicly traded parent company Black Diamond Inc. ? Black Diamond Inc. (symbol BDE) owns the brands Black Diamond, Gregory, PIEPS and POC. They seem to be moving more into apparel (higher margins).

ha, sure. It's more likely they will fire the rest of their SLC employees and send everything to China.
