Resole in SLC

Hey all, I've never had shoes re-soled before, mostly because before now I've used synthetic shoes and they STUNK. But now I have a pair of Anasazi VCS that I am well and trully in love with. I wanna get them resoled before its too late, but I've never done it before, and I don't really know where to go and what to ask for.

So SLC locals, where do you go to have your shoes done, or where do you send them off too?

I've heard that you can ask for different rubbers; what rubbers do you recommend and why? I climb BCC/Rock canyon quartzite and LCC granite the most.

Any pitfalls or mistakes to avoid?

P.S. I posted this here cause I was hoping to avoid 50+ posts that involve Rock and Resole jokes and flamey responses. I'll look up the phone numbers, adresses shipping costs and all that other fun stuff. Just looking to learn from experience :)

Try IME climbing shop..behind REI .. They will help

Get them resoled by a reputable resoler. The extra cost/time in shipping is usually worth it for a better job (new Anasazis aren't cheap...).

I've used Rock and Resole before and was always happy with their work. Rubber Room in Bishop is also a good one.

I've always gotten my shoes resoled with 5.10 C4 for rubber, but currently have a pair at Rubber Room getting Onyxx. Never tried it before but it's supposed to be a bit stiffer.

Sweet, thanks for the responses. Sounds like rubber room it is. If I was choosing out if the blue I would have chosen them anyway cause I love there little ad in R&I. Thanks guys

I sent mine to Locker and he did a great job. Can't complain.

I ended up going with a local named Don Roundy. Found a add of his in REI. He says he can have it done in one day, I'll let you all know how he does!

For anyone that's intersted, I got my shoes done by Don Roundy. I dropped em off at 8:30 pm and got a call at noon the next day saying they were done. It was about 50 bucks and I'm pleased as punch. Definitely recommend him.

Im not gonna post his number cause I don't want people to think I'm advertising for him but you can find his info with a google search. Very good choice for people like me who like things done fast.

Anyone else use Don Roundy? What rubber did he use? I'd so much rather drop off and pick up than mail shoes off.

Anyone else in the Salt Lake area to check out? I can't believe we don't have a dedicated local climbing shoe resoler.

I've used Komito's (Colorado) twice and they have done a great job. My brother has sent his shoes to Rock and Resole and he thought they did a good job. Sending them off to Colorado though is very expensive, so I found Don Roundy locally and decided to try him. Unfortunately one of the shoes came back a bit warped in the toe and it has never fit right since. Don is a talented shoemaker, but he's not a climber and I don't think he resoles a lot of climbing shoes. I hope others have a better experience because it would be great to have someone local who can do it. I think Don used Stealth rubber on my shoes.

I personally had a bad experience with Roundy in SLC. Super nice guy, fast turnaround, but my Miuras are wrecked. Not sure how experienced he is with climbing shoes, the edges/toes are really messed up. Debating whether I will have to buy a new pair or try and get them fixed at R&R (or somewhere else). I had 2 pairs of shoes resoled and the toe rands replaced for $50. Thought it was too good to be true... It was. Might be OK for lower end shoes, but I can't recommend the guy.

I've referred two of my friends to Don Roundy and he botched both of their resoles. He then offered to redo them for free and botched them again. So I would strongly recommend not going to him. Personally, I've been using only Rock & Resole for the past 4 years and I've never had a problem with them.
