Hoping to head to Sneffels this weekend and climb/ski the Snake couloir. Looking for anyone that has recent snow conditions from the area. Avy forecast looks decent, but love to get a first hand report if possible! Thanks!

There's been nuclear wind during the last week that has ravaged the alpine and caused an avalanche cycle on Saturday night. Some slopes are stripped while sheltered couloirs can have hard windslab. A spooky deep persistent slab problem lurks as well. It would probably be much more hazardous to climb the couloir right now than to rap in from the summit. While it feels like spring, on north aspects it is still very much a winter snowpack. Here's a link to a recent incident in a north-facing couloir. The victim triggered a windslab high in the feature and took the full ride, ending up on the surface with a broken femur.

Someone took the full ride yesterday on a thin windslab. So without having been I'm going to guess a thin layer of powder over crust with icy chunks thrown in. I'm just guessing but if you go, let us know.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
