Virgin Gorda, BVI

Has anyone bouldered / climbed in Virgin Gorda, BVI? I am heading there for my honeymoon and wondering if it's worth it or stick with diving.

I've never bouldered there, but a friend of mine co-wrote the guidebook. He's pretty stoked about it. He said the developed boulders arent super hard (up to V5), but the location can't be beat. You're new wife can lay on a picturesque beach while you crush some moderates. I'd definitely check it out.

We went for our babymoon back in November 2012 and I found the bouldering to be fun. The guidebook Kyle mentioned wasn't out yet when we went so I relied on a few websites, including some pages here on MP, for beta. There's also the Dr. Topo guide that Mark linked.

If you stay at Guavaberry Spring Bay, they provide free crashpad rentals. Three prominent areas (The Baths, Spring Bay, and Devil's Bay) are within walking distance of Guavaberry and there's also some routes on Guavaberry's grounds itself.

From my experience, BVI may not be a bouldering destination in and of itself (though the new guidebook may change that), but definitely fun for an afternoon or two. Actually, evenings near sunset would be more suitable for climbing - it isn't as hot and it's usually after the cruise ship day-trippers leave.

Side note: If you happen to be there around full moon, definitely go out at night. I ran laps on Island Crack by moon light in the middle of the night and it was glorious.

VG is, to me, very reminiscent of J Tree. The rock is climbable, not fantastic, but the location is so gorgeous that it's worth bringing shoes and chalk. Congratulations and have fun!
