It's been warm in Colorado this last week. Anyone know how that affects ice conditions? What is the ice in Vail like?

typically, when the temp gets above 0C, the ice melts. typically.

Or maybe better to say the hydrogen bonding in the ice shifts from 4 to somewhere around 3.6-3.7, depending of levels of conduction, convection, and radiation from the surrounding environment.

If the military ever de-classifies ice9 for civilian use, slushy ice could become a thing of the past!

I don't know what it is currently like in Vail but to answer your question it depends on several factors. Elevation, aspect, sun exposure (or lack of)to name a few will all effect climbs differently.
