I'm getting some tools soon and have been seriously considering these guys. They seem great for steep ice, im a little concerned about the carbon shaft for mixed stuff though. Anyone able to quell my fears/suggest something else?

I have a pair and have climbed mixed up to about M6 and feel pretty confident on them.

Those shafts are designed for straight down pull only. I blew up a quantum tech two years ago in a tool cam. Grivel replaced it but I would check out the Matrix Tech if you want to pull on mixed, it has a stronger shaft. Love the Matrix tech for long steep ice, more single swing sticks than any other tool I have used.

I see alot of people climbing with Quantums... They can't say enough good about them. I climb with Matrix Techs, I like them alot. Little bit lighter than most of the tools out there, but their huge over in the UK and spain and whatnot. They have to be a great tool or they'd be gone pretty quick, heh heh heh...

I've had the quantum techs for two seasons now and love them. There crazy light and really easy to get good sticks with, but have noticed that the shafts do bend a bit while dry tooling and have taken a bit of a beating. Overall for pure ice you really cant go wrong these tools

I bought my Quantum Techs 4-5 years ago and love them. They're excellent on ice, and the more vertical, the better. On bulges, you need to do slightly funky things with your arm to get a good stick on top because of the s-shaped handle. I still would not trade them for anything. That said, the handles are only B-rated, so I don't dry-tool or climb mixed with them except for an occasional minor move now and then. I'm afraid of repeating Willy P's experience. The Matrix Tech would be a better choice for all-purpose. I want to do more mixed climbing, but have my eye on the X Dreams for that.

I have a pair of Quantum Techs for sale

I  bought them new, about 4 years ago, enthusiastic about using them for ice climbing and tech mountaineering in the CO Rockies.

After just a few uses. I ended up focusing on other activities. These tools are butter. They feel powerful, yet light in your hands. The carbon fiber absorbs shock so your bones feel good and strong after repeated swings/front points. I hate to see them sitting around…They should be sending on epic proportions.

Selling for $325,     s/h included or delivery if in front range co

condition: Mint but for slight cosmetic scratches on yellow handle, pick could be sharpened, slight notch on rubber shock absorber on one tool (Visible in the picture (right))

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
