My wife is looking for some new pants to wear xc skiing and just around town in the winter. The trick is that she is a petite and has a short inseam. What I'm looking for is a soft shell pant that is either available is petite/short, OR has a plain hem on the leg (i.e. no zippers) so she can have it hemmed/shortened.

Any recommendations, ladies?

Ibex Tuck Pant. Softshell, durable as hell, wool blend, clean functional styling. I've had their Guide Lights (same thing, earlier vintage) for over 10 years, have climbed ice and rock, hiked, skied and played orchestra concerts in them. They're a little bit short, so perfect for activities where you don't want your pants dragging on the ground and/or you need to be able to see your feet. Not cheap, but you're gonna love 'em!

Salomon makes really nice insulated softshell pant.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
