Video: Aid Master Ammon McNeely Seriously Injured (NSFW)

Master Ammon slammed into a wall during a BASE exit in Moab and seriously messed his foot up. Last I heard he was released from the ICU and the doctors think he will be able to keep his leg. I wish him the best of luck in his recovery.

Warning: the video is graphic.

whoa. That was pretty f*cked up. It's crazy what surgeons can do these days. I really hope they did save his leg..

Ammon has a huge heart, he's one of the nicest and most supportive people I've met in the Yosemite scene. Best wishes on a speedy and complete recovery.

That is pretty knarly and a tough break. Extreme play has extreme consequences. Glad it wasn't me. It wouldn't be me cause I don't live on that side of life. It's a hard life dirt bagging, hard drinkin (DUI), law breaking,....

So are the tax payers picking up the tab for this (medical & rescue)? I haven't seen a donation thread yet.

Maybe he has insurance. Even pirates need insurance.

Patching up Ammon is one of the best things I could think of putting my tax dollars toward.

Alicia Sokolowski awesome attitude!

Id rather see American tax dollars go to healing/helping someone (regardless if reason is due to own choices or not) then take out innocent people via drones (which is ALOT more expensive than Ammons medical bills saying he doesnt have insurance).

yeah for real Alicia!

There is also a fundraiser in operation right now led by Moab BASE jumpers to raise funds for local SAR/EMS.

I am happy to put my money where my mouth is. If anyone has a donation link, please post. Watching Ammon do this thing has inspired me as a climber since the first time I tied in.

Do you understand that you can break your ankle as Ammon did climbing? Or do you not live on "that side of life"?

I only saw the static image. Kind of hesitant to watch the video. Good vibes to you, Ammon! I'm really hoping surgery goes well and the infection risk is handled.

I just watched this, it's graphic but I don't think it warrants the NSFW tag. I guess it depends where you work.

He seemed to be taking it like a champ. Good luck on the recovery Ammon.

"So, the question is; Do we stand up and take the risks and have a blast enjoying our passions? Or, do we hide in the shadows, being afraid of what might happen if we are so bold to follow our dreams?"

Amon is an inspiration to us all to aspire to our greatest potential, and to realize we cannot do so without assuming a certain level of risk. How big are your dreams? Safety of a cubicle and a salary? Thrill of flying your body? Bringing a child into the world? Summiting 8K meter peaks? They all carry a certain level of risk in one form or another.

Follow your dreams, go out and get it!
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
