Camping near Brevard NC

I'm heading to Brevard NC for an AMGA course on November 9-12. I'll be spending then nights in my tent. I guess Uncle Sam (and Pisgah National Forest) will still be taking nap time, so I'm exploring other camping options. Don't need a picnic table and fire pit, just a fairly calm stretch of dirt or grass I won't get kicked off of.

Any folks living near there know of an inexpensive campground within 10 min of Brevard?

Alternatively, anyone have good info on whether or not the national forest campsites will be checked/policed?

pisgah is open as far as i know. You can camp over by the glass, cedar, off the parkway in certain spots (black Balsam)....a bunch of stuff around thats free. If your taking with FOX you may be able to camp behind their place??

The forest is open

Thanks for the info, I'll check those out! I had only checked out Davidson campground and it is closed.

There are some good, free camping spots off FR475B by the trailhead to the South Side of Looking Glass Rock.

+1. If THOSE are closed I think it's time to take action against the morons in DC.

pretty sure that whole road near the davidson river is open since its a through-road. You ever been through that road to the other side? Weird little small community out there. real peaceful.

If the campgrounds are closed, you can still camp in the forest in the primitive sites. There are many throughout the forest with some being on 475, 475B, 477, and 1206 being just a few roads that are fairly close to town. There are also a few privately owned campgrounds outside of town if you want something a bit nicer.

Drive up 475 B and find anywhere to pull off on the dirt road.

Which of the privately own campgrounds has anyone had good success with? I am doing a family trip in early November and was planning on Davidson's River, as usual....maybe not meant to be.

That is the plan.

Br'er - I've stayed at Ash Grove before, outside Brevard. It's super nice, friendly, and they had a very well maintained hot tub.
