Nikwax type waterproofing for deerskin gloves

Maybe this should be posted at teton gravity, but figured I'd ask here anyway.

I was given some work gloves that fit my hand well that have deerskin palms. I want to apply some waterproofing treatment to them. Nikwax says of their wax it is to be used on smooth leathers.. The deerskin isn't rough like suede, but isn't exactly as smooth as the pigskin found on, say, Kinco work glove.

Nikwax has a separate Product made for suede and nubuck but it is a rub on dwr type thing that I doubt has as much staying power of the wax.

I don't know anything about materials and such. Is putting the was on the deerskin gonna just not work? Mess it up somehow?

Ding ding!! that's what I have done in the past. Just put on the gloves, get a blop of snoseal and have a cute girl hold the hair dryer and as the snoseal melts rub it in to the leather. Just like rubbing in lotion, keep going until the leather no longer will soak up any more of the wax.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
