Does Indian creek have cell phone reception?

I've got Verizon, well be needing to make an important call and am just wondering if there is now service. I don't think I had service last year, I remember maybe 1 bar in Monticello.

Should I expect to hang out a extra day in Moab just to make a phone call?

I've received 2 bars with AT&T standing on top of my car at the Beef Basin pull off.

Also, if you drive out to the point where you get out of the creek (by the Indian Creek National Recreation Area sign), you can get reception there.

If it is really important, I'd probably hang out in Moab.

+1 for about a bar of service at the beef basin toilet if you hold your phone as high as you can.

There is also really good 3g service from the top of the six shooters..

I've made several calls from the toilets at the BB pull off...you have to walk around a bit to find the best spot, but you can get consistent coverage...but as the others stated, if it's really important...like a phone interview for a job or you're trying to pretend you're calling from your home office(instead of the the desert) I'd probably go to monticello...

on 211 right before the rode dives down in to the creek (like right at the sign for "Indian Creek") you can get full bars... cheers DF

I never had any luck with ATT at the Beef Basin Road. But if I drove east on 211 past Newspaper Rock, past the hairpin turns and over the hill to (I think it's called) Hart Point Rd, I got great reception. Better than home, actually.

Don't dream of getting ANY coverage down in the creek. As soon as you ascend up out of the canyon, you will get good reception though.

ditto. also right around the bulletin board. but if it's an important phone call like a job interview, I would drive out the canyon and make the call at the Hart's Draw road turnout.

Where exactly is this Beef Basin Toilet?

The link above is the map of the Creek. Beef Basin is between Bridger Jack Mesa and Shay Mesa, with the toilet on the left past the Dugout Ranch, marked with a green T.

Literally on top of Hamburger Rock you'll get a bit as well. Enough to send a simple text anyway.

I have Verison as well and didn't have great reception around the creek. You'd need to be closer to moab or monticello. However, if you can do communicating via the internet I have a solution

The visitor center for Canyonlands has wifi. You would need a national park pass to get to it but they leave it on after hours so you wouldn't even need to go in. 10 minutes or so farther north from the creek pasture campground.

Bringing this topic back after 4 years. Is there any change in cellular data/4G availability? Especially to do video calls?

At Hamburger Rock campground I had some weak at&t service this spring. Was enough to send a few snaps on directions for my friend before I dropped my phone while making coffee and destroyed it.

There are 5 bars of fast 4G!

...on top of the North Six Shooter. Actually come to think of it you might only have to hike to the base of the route to get it.
As others said years ago, decent signal/data just above on 211, near Abajo Loop and Hart Point turnoffs (and good camping down Hart Point road too).

We made a call from The Fin, can definitely attest to service by Fintastic with AT&T. Not possible to do video, though.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
