I could speculate about whats wrong with you.. But I'm not going to. I will, however, recommend that you go see a doctor. Start with your primary. Let him figure out what is going on. He will run some lab tests, imaging, etc. and he will rule out serious medical conditions that you could have. Just let him know that you may be in decent enough shape, but that you don't feel like yourself and that you are concerned. As long as he (or she) is not a total dick, they will listen to you. And if they don't, then go see someone else. Pretty much any certified medical clinician who practices a primary care specialty will be competent enough to help you with this. Not to offend anybody, but I suggest you stop wasting your time asking random folks on the internet to speculate on your health, and go talk to someone who knows what the fuck they are talking about.

Sorry you're hurting, nicelegs. Take solace in the fact that on your bad days you're better off than on my good days. And I've been climbing longer! I say this having climbed with you. You're way better in bad form than I am at my best! Good luck, the right doc will get you straightened out. And get that tooth fixed. I recently had an abscess fixed (botched root canal from 20 years ago [rock fall!] that festered for decades and finally went crazy). Having that fixed made a big difference in my overall well being.

It sounds like discogenic pain to me. Certain types of disc bulges 'reduce' during activity and the patient can feel relatively normal. Some patients even control their symptoms by running 15 minutes every morning to reduce the bulge or dehydrate their injured disc slightly. The fact that you like the decompression table at the chiropractor is another indication that you might be dealing with an injured disc. The night pain, sore to the touch, back spasms, SI joint issues also all fit discogenic pain. The weight loss and lack of energy could be from poor sleep. But like others have said, see a doctor. Unexplained weight loss is a red flag for other more serious conditions.

Buff, is that a diagnosis, symptom, or prescription? BTW, hope you can find out something to help, nicelegs.

^^^ I'm thinking prescription. Dr. Johnson's Snake Oil. Essence of hooker infused with copious amounts of blow. This concoction can cure everything that aches from tooth to toe. With all your pain you only dropped 3 F-bombs nicelegs. I hope you get this figured out soon.

There comes a point when individual doctors tend to ignore you if they cant make the diagnosis and its not apparent that yer gonna die. A common sign of that is the physician suggesting the problem is psychogenic. At that point, its more efficient to consider going to a major diagnostic clinic such as Mayo or Lahey. Ive had a couple of friends diagnosed and helped at a diagnostic clinic after months of fooling around with doctors in individual practice. Rob

Thanks guys. These will all be things I'll bring up when I head into the doctor. I had my tooth Xrayed today. Turns out that it's not bad. The crack is minor. However, the tooth next to it, the very far back molar, is basically one big cavity. The mouth pain was all that, not the crown. Anyway, he said it would be pointless and temporary to try to save the tooth. It's coming out on Oct 1. I would have liked it to come out sooner but such as it is to schedule. He didn't specifically say that it would cause a feeling of unwell but he did say to have this much decay, it's been coming on for a long time.

What about Lyme disease? Might explain why you felt better on antibiotics, and basically seems to have a massive array of symptoms that can present over time, be intermittent, etc.

My wife is not a Dr but works in the industry. She has read your post and (If we may) suggests a "full fasting blood panel" to determine a lingering infection possibly from never fully recovering from the pneumonia. After you do the bloodwork start a regiment of 5000 IU 4x daily of vitamin D and 3x daily of Ultra-Monolaurin from Time Laboratories to ward off any lingering infection. Pay close attention to the instructions for the Ultra-Monolaurin as you will need to keep taking this supplement for a while after you start feeling better since there is a die-off period for the bacteria. Stopping too soon will allow the bacteria to grow back. I have used this product as well for colds and a recent "walking fever" that had me aching in the lower back, hips, and legs with no other apparent symptoms of fever. This fever diagnosis was confirmed by the fasting blood panel. I felt better in a few days on this regiment that was prescribed by our Chiropractor who specializes in naturo/homeopathic medicine and applied kinesiology. Hope this works for you nicelegs and as always YMMV.

Tom-osaurus Rex wrote:start a regiment of 5000 IU 4x daily of vitamin D John, I hope you figure it out. I think this quote above is poor and suspect advice. For someone spending as much time outside in sunlight as you, there should be no VitD shortage. 20k IU/day is a shitload of D to be taking. At 50k IU/day you can pretty much count on VitD toxicity in a few months. If you have existing kidney or liver issues, it increases the risk of toxicity. Between tooth infection, hanging in a harness a lot, lots of NSAIDs, poor sleep, history of hip issues...could be any number of things causing the kidney located pain. Good luck to you.

I should've emphasized and added: Please follow your Dr's recommendations. As with any medications, including Ibuprofen and aspirin, if symptoms persist after several days of use consult your doctor. Thanks for pointing that out Will. Vitamin D Toxicity is no joking matter.

No worries guys. I appreciate your willingness to offer anything. I'm not acting on anything alone, rather compiling a list. I am somewhat attempting to follow the scientific method. The tooth will be the first to go. Unfortunately, that appt isn't until Oct 1 so that is a while. In the time between then and now, I'm going to work on strengthening the sore areas and improving flexibility. A week or so after the tooth comes out, if I haven't noticed anything, I'll go to the next step and so on. I've dealt with this BS and done pretty well since Oct. I can sure afford to be a little patient to actually isolate the problems.

I thought I'd give a response to this, as there is news, somewhat. I've had so many vials of blood pulled, and have been tested for everything. The good news, that airport bathroom with Shawn Mitchell didn't leave any lasting (physical) scars. Basically what it all pointed to was bad muscle inflammation. Like 3 days on a wall then some crossfitting to top it off inflammation. This is after sitting around on the proj and climbing about once every 2 weeks. A lot of other symptoms point to dermamyositis but there could be other non-autoimmune inflammation things instead. In the last couple weeks I've been loaded up on so much prednisone I can't hardly see straight (literally). It's awful shit. Noticably higher blood pressure, trouble focusing, damn tired legs, throbbing eyes, and horrible heartburn. And my back, well, my back hasn't felt this good since I was 19. I honestly don't remember when I last could jump out of bed. Or get without groaning. Or drive more than 30 minutes without an endless ache. The big low back kidney ache is like 1 out of 10, sometimes 0. It's felt around 6-9 for the last 2 years. The swelling and crunchiness in my big toe has almost gone away. My hips don't hurt. I can run and play with my puppy. I have had awful cramps in my hands for about 2 years too, gone. I can make a tight fist now, that is a big difference. The skin rash under my eye and on my chest is gone. For climbing, I have a lot of my flexibility back and I can try hard again without utter failure. I am on a catabolic steroid, so I'm not exactly getting stronger. That'll have to wait until I fully taper off the drug. I can use my whole body again and that is pretty cool in my book.
The side effects are just awful though and I'm completely sure I can't live a full and productive life on prednisone. I'm tapering down as per my rheumatologists orders now. I'll be off of it in 3 weeks. At that point, it's a matter of waiting to see if and how bad and how soon the inflammation comes back. I'm praying that this was just something needed to break a cycle, and all is well now. Time will tell though. Once this semester ends and I have some time to read, I'm going to start looking into diets and lifestyle changes that can counteract inflammation that I can implement on next to no budget.

Remember my yellow yogurt and me with my broken wrist back in New Paltz? Turmeric is your friend! I'll send you a message on how to incorporate it into your diet. Oh, and up-to-date photos on the puppy, please!
