Any ideas to get fish oil smell out of harness?

Had some fish oil caps in my pocket bust open and now my harness smells like a cannery. Any ideas on something that will take the smell away but not damage the fabric? Was thinking of just leaving outside in the sun for a couple days but I'm not sure that will cut it.

hang one of those febreeze things on it. have you seen the commercials?....that shit is magic

Hand wash maybe.

Fill the kitchen sink or a 5gal. bucket with warm water.
Add enough Dawn dishwashing soap to make the water a little sudsy.
Agitate your harmess in this solution for several minutes then rinse thoroughly.
Hang dry outside, out of direct sunlight.
Dawn is the safest cleaner/degreaser out there.
That's why first responders use it to clean the wildlife after an oil spill.
I used it once to clean creosote oil that my Akitas got into on a hike along the railroad tracks.
That was a sticky stinky mess.

They use dawn on them little ducks in the commercials, good stuff!

Lemon juice will likely take out the smell if Dawn doesn't. But I don't know how lemon juice impacts nylon......

I once spent some time on a lobster boat, and the bait - rotting fish - made my backpack stink to high heaven. I sprayed it with someting, which I forget as it was about ten years ago, but what helped the most was to leave it out in the sun for a day or two.

Well, go Canyoneering with it, that will probably get rid of it, it might stink like canyon water, though.

I have had really good luck with that product for removing stink. I haven't tried it on fish oil, but many other things. Put your harness in a trash bag with that can open, seal it up, give it a day or so, and it probably will be gone. I imagine it would be wise to clean off the oil first.

If in doubt, contact the harness manufacturer and see their suggestions for cleaning the harness with anything other than water.

My standard gear detox:

Rope wash and shower temperture water, then leave it outside in the shade to dry. Make sure it's TOTALLY DRY, then put it in a freezer bag with a dryer sheet, then into the freezer for a week... Although the freezer for a week may not be necessary-- the cold kills bacteria and works wonders on getting canyon funk out of gear, but if it's fish oil there's nothing to kill. Dryer sheets work wonders with smells.

You want to avoid exposing nylon to any acids, although citric acid is not very strong in the whole scheme of things. Soap and water would be best.

ya I was planning on avoiding the lemon juice.. I used vinegar and lemon juice to remove the smell from the shorts I was wearing but figured either wouldn't be a good idea on the harness. Prob gonna go with the dawn and sunlight and if that doesn't work just keep it as an extra special loaner harness for my friends & fam.
