I'm looking around for guides to teach my friends and myself how to anchor at devils lake. I would like to have the session August 12 in the morning. Please give me a quote on 2 people then 3 people learning how to anchor and 5 people learning how to anchor. So three different prices.

If there is an experience climber who would like to show us the ropes for free that would be much appreciated and we can belay you since we have been gym climbing for awhile.

Those of you who say google around, I have. Who ever I emailed doesn't respond or other places I have looked at are asking 180 per person.

PM sent with all details you need for a local south suburban guide who can do it all for you up at Devils lake.

$180 per person, with 2 or 3 people, is a reasonable rate for a guide for a day class. Not sure what you are expecting, but they do this to earn a living.

Rather than asking for a guide, why don't you ask for someone to teach you anchor skills for free (which is what you want). Tell them you'll belay them and buy them a meal.

There are a number of guides that are available for teaching top rope anchor building. $180 is very reasonable.

I took an anchor building class with this guide and was very impressed:

The focus of the class was (and should be) on safety and building solid top rope anchors that you can trust your life on.

Be thoughtful when selecting a guide and don't be too frugal. Remember, your anchor is your life line.

Ask for Matt. Excellent guide, taught me everything I know. He's PCGI certified, extremely experienced and really does use all of the best practices for anchor building. I'd bungee jump off his anchors with a static line.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
