Family Climbing in South Dakota

Hey Folks,
I am looking for a place to take my family climbing during our stay in Rapid City. They climb 5.7ish. I have a full rack and can lead a wide variety of routes, but that doesn't matter if they can't climb it. Are there any areas that have top rope climbing, or places that I can lead a single pitch and build an anchor?
Thanks in advance.

Try Moonlight Ridge right in Custer, lots of moderate fun climbs for the family. I brought my family there and the kids had a blast. You can buy a mini guide at the rock shop in Hill City, I thinks its called granite something or another. If you have some time I can loan you mine.

Thanks. I might try that area tomorrow. What are the anchors like at the top?

Been a while but I think all anchors are bolted. Make sure you get the guidebook most of the climbs aren't on MP. On all mixed climbs the gear is obvious and bomber. Do chantilly lace on thin fin for the kids.

There's also some good stuff at that grade in both the South Seas and Marker areas at Rushmore.

The guide is called "Moonlight Ridge Climber's guide" I think it was written by John Biddick. The entire guide is/was 24 pages long. My copy is from June of 2009 and I bought it at Granite Sports in Hill City. I'm sure there have been revisions since. You can borrow mine if you promise to mail it back.

Second vote for South Seas or Marker (at Rushmore) primarily on the approach. It's not bad getting to Moonlight ridge but at Rushmore it's flat trail with a 3 minute approach. We climbed at Toy Boat (South Seas area) last year and used 1 rope to top rope 2 climbs at once since the routes were so close together.

I'd also recommend the Outlets behind Sylvan lake, go swimming and get some ice cream after you climb.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
