what is the purpose of the red cord???

Wow. I love how one of the pieces has a non-locking biner with the gate pressing right down into the rock... And of course they used a locker for that other piece.

I'm guessing the red cord is for a directional, but it looks to me like it would need to be coming from the other direction to do anything of value.

The red cord is definitely inexplicable, but assuming that the two traditional pieces are solid, that looks like it could be a bomb-proof anchor. Inefficient for sure, but not necessarily sketchy.
