Layton Kor

You may have heard the sad news that Layton Kor has passed away. More than a legend (which he was to so many of us), he was a kind and gracious person, passionate about climbing to the end. Layton worked as a bricklayer, and for the last several years he struggled with medical problems and expenses that were not covered by insurance. His wife Karen and son Arlan are grieving his loss and dealing with large medical bills.

It's been said that if Layton had a dollar for every climber who repeated one of his routes, he would have been a rich man. If a dollar is what fits your budget, please consider donating it symbolically to honor his memory and help his family out.

Layton was an amazing person, from beginning to end. Often one's idols disappoint in real life. Layton, in real life, surpassed even the huge pedestal he always stood on to me as a young climber, learning about him from legends and stories. He was my hero and my friend, and a beautiful spirit.
