Hoping to spin out a long weekend in tensleep in the middle of the month next month in celebration of myself and a good friend turning 30. There's lots of ideas being kicked around, but tensleep has the appeal of being convenient (said friend will likely be driving back from yellowstone around the time I'll be able to get off work. Hence meeting in tensleep), not to mention awesome.
It was a bit cooler when I was there towards the end of summer last year and I've heard some nay-saying about the short season up that way, so my question for the experts is this: is it reasonable to pull off a weekend up there in mid-May? Obviously weather changes, but strictly speaking in generalities.
I don't mind bundling up, but I ask because if there are other concerns like the rock being wet in the spring, etc. then it might be worth it go somewhere else and come back to Tensleep later in the season.
As an aside, if anyone wants to get up that way and do some climbing, open invitation!
I've done it. I think I was there early May last year. Lots of snow on the ground and in the campsites. Cold at night but climbing in the sun during the day was just great. Plus, you have the place to yourself.
