TC PRO quick fix need help!
|
just ripped the heel on my new tc pros putting them on today. im looking for a quick fix. they ripped right down a sewn seam on the inside of the right shoe. i should probably try returning them but am leaving on a road trip in 5 days so its not really possible. does anyone have a recommendation on what to do to patch this up. (besides not pulling so hard while putting them on) |

Mine did the same thing. I just climbing in them for a while just fine. Then one day I finally ripped it further into the rubber. So I just used needle and thread with a pair of needle nose pliers and sewed it up. Then put a little shoe goo(from walmart) over it for added protection. Good as new. |

new shoes shouldnt do that ... |

The exact same thing happened to my Sportivas... speedystitcher.com/ is the answer |

I would just take it to a good old-fashioned cobbler in your area (if you cant return them). They'll easily be able to handle stitching in leather. A local shoe repair shop did some repair on my Keen sandals for something like $10, and I picked them up next day. Now if I can only convince him to start resoleing... |

If you end up having to do it yourself, I bought a little set of heavy-duty hand sewing needles at (I think) Walmart or (maybe) Target a few years back. They sold heavy-duty thread (essential, standard sewing thread will fail) as well. I think I was sewing up a hole a squirrel chewed in my pack or something. Anyway, one of the needles in the set was curved, and this might work well for that repair, especially if you use a needle-nose as a needle-driver. I used a locked stitch, meaning that you put the thread through the loop before pulling the thread tight. To finish, leave the last loop really long (4-5 inches) and use that to throw a couple of knots with the free end of the thread. Then just cut off the excess. Should get you through the trip. Definitely return the shoes afterward, though, that is BS that the seam failed so quick. Totally awesome shoes, nonetheless, I like them better every time I climb in them. |

thanks for the tips. im going to take action this weekend one way or another. i am a bit dissapointed in the durability. for 180 bucks these things should be almost indestructible(aside from the rubber). i even sized them for comfort and have a narrow foot. shitake. ill post up when i do something. |

my lovely girlfriend spent 3 hours (while i saw sleeping) sewing the rip up with some ten lb test fishing line. she said she used needle nose pliers and broke about 6 needles in the process. she suggests a special leather needle. it looks pretty solid to me. im gonna coat boat sides with some shoe goo and call it done. thanks. |

I understand it's done but next time talk to Mark at Plattsburgh Shoe Hospital. He's close. |
