Patagonia's Encapsil

Ok, so in the parka department. WTF.

Is this yet another GAME CHANGER?!?!?

patagonia.com/us/product/pa…

18 oz (518 grams)
1000-fill power
WATER-REPELLENT DOWN

So, if Patagonia's Encapsil tech works, this parka is a HALF POUND lighter than the DAS Parka and if the 1000-fill down is warmer, seems like a win.

Compare to the Mirage Parka at 12 oz - 900-fill down. However, not water repellent treated down. On the other hand, the Patagonia is $699, and the Mirage is $349.

What do you guys think? (Dane)

They're only making 1,000 jackets. I assume they'll be launching a more full lineup of Encapsil gear next winter, I'm holding out for that.

The Mirage has 5.3 oz of 900 fill down. This has 1000 fill power down, but I can't find how much. I think that would make a big difference.

Most importantly, it's Water Repellent down. I think that would add value right there. Depending on how well that water repellent tech works.

Patagonia never seems to list how much weight of fill they use. Hard to take them seriously without the info.

1000 jackets? They will "wash" it for you twice a year.

Sounds like a great way to beta test and have some one else pick up $75,000 of the tab. Guerrilla marketing at its best. Yep that alone is a game changer.

looks pretty awesome... I like the marmot 8000m parkas too. but I have a patagonia ultralight goose down and a patagonia down sweater, when combined to give nearly 1700 fill down at a weight of maybe 22oz. i got them both 50% off brand new at sales. so for $250 I got 2 great jackets that work well together and are very versatile. Could probably add an ultralight goose down shirt and polypro layer to get nearly 2500 fill at about 30oz. probably a bit overkill haha, but I'm sure it would keep me warm in nearly any weather. add a goretex shell and it's good to go.
I probably still want encapsil though lol.

Isn't it made in the USA? That is a nice change for Patagonia. I could be wrong.

Why are you posting online if you aren't ok with foreign made goods?

Haaa! And, without getting into the never-ending, complex, and too-often nationalistic debate of where this and that is made, this is the best response ever. Fitting in many ways.

If you buy this jacket full price you have way too much money on your hands. You should probably hop over and buy this sleeping bag while your at it: mountainhardwear.com/Ghost™-%28Regular%29/OU8515,default,pd.html

Well im sure those people who can afford 70K to get carried up everest can afford a 1K sleeping bag. or a 700 dollar encapsil.

theres been reports on 2 different jackets that theres less fill on the right side by the pockets on this jacket than the left

isolated incidents or design feature?

The liver creates more heat in the body than other organs in the lower abdomen and is located on the right side. Patagonia considered the heat output of the liver so they reduced fill weight on the right side.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
