So, I got to watch my girls all day while my wife was at work and I was searching for old Eiger videos on You Tube and "The Climb" (2002) came up and I thought, "what the hey..." I watched it and was laughing at knowing all the stuff they were "climbing"/filing on. I especially liked the hanging belay at the base of Chicago Overhang.

The Climb: "This is a Christian film about two free solo climbers, who meet each other during a rescue get a chance to realize a climb of a lifetime, but with an unexpected change: they have to work together. It is a special team, with totally different people, who have different life goals, different views, but use the same climbing technique. It is action filled, but also heart touching film about egoism, responsibility and forgiveness. Derrick (Jason George) is a very selfish person who wants to do the big climbing solo, and Michael (Ned Vaughn) who is a Christian person with a good heart."

That looks pretty hilarious. Is that on Netflix streaming or just DVD? Netflix has a few climbing movies; most are on DVD. A good depressing, historical climbing movie on streaming is "The North Face."

watch 'Nordwand', or the North Face for sure. Pretty accurate historical flick( minus the girlfriend part). Or just get down to watching Clint Eastwood in Eiger Sanction again and again.

Joe Simpson's "The Beckoning Silence" is outstanding (forget you saw the helicopter). Won Int'l Emmy Award for best documentary 3 yrs ago. Story of the Toni Kurz-Andreas Hinterstoisser team (who hooked up with Edi Ranier and Willy Angerer) in 1936 to attempt the Eiger. Did a great job in detailing the period's climbing clothing, gear, etc. The 9 episodes used to be on You Tube but no longer; now on Vimeo with the new wide-screen format.

If you want a good laugh, "The Climb" will provide. We showed it for funny movie night once and it was a success.

My favorite part is when they are doing the first ascent of Chomolungmagomaloma or whatever they call it, and they are climbing up the ridge at the end through ski tracks.

Be sure to check the credits at the end for some familiar people who worked on the movie... stunt climbers, riggers etc...

The climb is great! Changed my life and led me to accept Jesus Christ as my lord and personal savior.
