I bought the brightest blue and brightest orange paint so that it will brighten up my dank garage. I don't have a lot of painting experience, mostly just rollers and single colors. I only have brushes and rollers right now, and the paint sales person said that I had to put the blue down first (she said the orange would show through the blue). Any tips on getting something rad without a spray gun?
Do a search on the internet for "painting sponge technique". You'll probably need a couple more shades of orange to get the effect you're looking for from your weblink.
Basically, you just sponge paint over a base coat. It gives a kind of random texture and depth to the painted wall.
Buy a sheet of drywall to practice on first. Although the base texture is different you can rehearse the technique before committing and not too pricey. Also, Home Depot has goof paint; returned cans that they sell off cheap. Another trick from art school: Go to a headstone shop with a coffee can, ask them for a scoop of their granite dust. It is nothing but waste material to them, they'll even look at you funny. Mix it into the paint to add texture. Because it is a really fine powder, it adds just a little friction to the paint without turning your wall into sandpaper.
