Trip Report
Johnny Vegas, Wedding climb, 10/27/12
by AzRockDawg

October 27th was an incredible day for myself and my new wife.
Back in May of 2012 we decided that our wedding vows would be exchanged in a place that held a special place in our hearts. The first place we could think of was Red Rock, and so the planning began...

On our first visit to Red Rock together we had climbed Johnny Vegas and have always loved the route, that would be our climb! Knowing the logistics of the ledge before starting Solar Slab and the fact that there are three moderate routes right there, we chose our rope teams. There would be six groups of two, twelve people total. Two groups on Beulahs Book, two on Johnny Vegas and two on Solar Slab Gully. We would all meet at the top and have our special day.

I was amazed at 5:30am that everyone had made it and was on-time! Considering that this is a popular area and the weather was perfect, we needed to start early. We hoped to be first in line for the routes, climb quickly and stay ahead of any other parties. All of our groups made it to the ledge at 500 feet within 1.5 - 2 hours, nothing compared to El Cap speed acsents, but we were happy with the time!

Everyone made it to the ledge and most changed clothes for the occasion. We had our moment in time; our love for each other and our love of climbing. We exchanged our vows in the presence of some of our best friends. This is the way we'd envisioned our wedding day and our incredible friends helped us with making it happen.

That's friggin' awesome! What a wonderful place for a wedding

Should I feel bad that last January I took a leak on that bush right next to where you exchanged vows?

No but you could have used your big boy discretion and kept that one to yourself.

I guess that's one way to keep unwanted family members or inlaws from attending.

As a member of the party - it not only moved me to a part of the procession but in such a fantastic place to boot - Congrats to you and Brandi and Years of Happiness ahead!
Rock on!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
