Maybe they didn't like the cut of your jib. Were you acting like an ass on the phone? People in Boulder are very sensitive to negative vibes which in turn causes minor freak outs until all can be balanced with medical marijuana, espresso drinks and fruit smoothies.

+ 1 for R and R doing a good job! Never had an issue.

Well a few days have gone by. I have read everybodys posts. I'll admit my disappointment may have been a bit overblown.Im a cook and in my industry we get yelled at a lot. If a steaks over done re-do it. If the salad is over dressed, re-do it. If the ommelet is cold, re-do it. If the mashers just aren't that good, re-do em. Thats what we do. If we make a mistake we admit to it, we correct it an we move on. I love feed back. If i make a mistake i expect a person to call me out on it. I feel bad, terrible, i dwell on it for days and it makes me better. I guess i take that outlook everywhere. I'm not an ass. I don't think so at least. Ill ask around. Im no Gordon Ramsey. (actually he is a pretty fun guy i hear) Im not really fun or interesting either. So where does that leave me.

The Climbing community is small. The last thing i want to do is burn bridges. I called with the expectation of a certain thing, thinking that it would be no big deal if i were to send my shoes back that it could be fixed for me. My exact words were "could you help me out." When i was told that i could bring em by and they would "put some freesole on em," i may have over reacted but only slightly. I was expecting some give and take. You know...tell ya what, you send your shoe in and we will get a rand on there for ya. just pay shipping. That would have been heaven. But instead i may have mis-interpreted the reponse as no way. pay 50 bucks and we'll fix the problem. (that was not a direct quote)

As the conversation went on i certainly got a bit defensive as may they have. So this is where i stand right now. Customer service is really important. I don't give great customer service all the time, it takes lots of energy. But when i don't i get called out on it.

It seems that R+R do good work. My other five shoes are doing just fine. The glue is sticking, the rubber is sticking and they are standing on smaller nubbins than ever. I should thank you for that. It was well worth the 45 bucks or whatever.

So sorry for the rant. I learned something. That is i should cool off and perhaps except some variance in life and we are all human. but i hope that R+R take something from this too. Don't get taken advantage of but perhaps saying OK is better than saying no.

As the last poster so eloquently stated. I hope to put everything back in "Balance." Sorry for the minor freak out.

May we all Send in Peace.

You sound like a cool dude. Sorry your shoes got messed up.
I had 10 good experiences with RR until one day I got my muiras back with LaSportiva rubber - against my request obviously, I'd rather climb with shit soles than the stuff LaSportiva was making at the time. I called, explained the situation, got the next resole for free and dealt with the weaksauce rubber for another round.
You probably caught the guy on a bad day. I image in your profession you deal with assholes who are in an entirely different league than you were on that one...

I've used R & R for years and never had an issue - until this last resole. Maybe they hired some new folks (or need some new folks). They're a good business, I'd bet they'll straighten out soon.

MP join date t minus a few hours ago. Calling 14ers.com an ego fest, priceless.

I sort of miss the old days. Climbingboulder is gone, Hoffmeyer went off the deep end, summitpost got derailed with the death of prate and prattle, This site's forums sort of bit it when Bob D left. too bad ...... Getting old.

I live in boulder and everyone i know (including myself) has had great experiences with this place. Of course your shoes aren't going to be as down turned as when you bought them.. that's what happens after some wear.

I just got my Muira VS's back from Rock and Resole and, as predicted, the shoes might as well be new. Thanks R&R for your awesome service!

I have had 30+ pairs of resoles a year from R&R. Excellent craftsmanship and great folks.

I had a buddy who worked at R&R for a few years.
Turns out the resole business is really tough. You get very little money for a highly skilled trade which happens to expose you to some pretty nasty stuff.
Apparently, they never really know what they are getting into with each pair of shoes until they have pulled them apart; odd wear, odd materials, dry rot etc...
What I took away from him is that if you have good footwork, take care of your shoes (dry them after each use and wash them every so often,)and resole them long before any rand damage can occur you can get 10+ resoles out of a good pair of shoes.
For most of us who don't take care of our shoes like we should, be prepared for some shoes to come back either different than when we sent them in or just plain toast.
No re-soler can fix every pair of shoes, every time. Often there is no way to know if the shoe is toast until they have ruined the shoe in question.
Take care if your shoes and don't always expect a miracle!

Just to add my two cents...I've had nothing but great experiences with R&R. Nice guys, always had good results and I'm always impressed with how fast they come back.

I've been very, very pleased with Erik and everyone at R&R for working on my various shoes over the years (10+). It's a small shop, sometimes there's a line, a long phone call with lots of folks waiting can be challenging. As folks here have indicated, sometimes the shoes themselves are part of the challenge. I brought in a pair of my wife's and they were just not resoleable. I'd recommend R&R.

If you aren't happy with resoles, just go buy a new pair of shoes.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
