Not sure how close you want to be, but the Wanderlust hostel in Gunnison is a pretty good place.

You can stay at the Blue Mesa Ranch on the north side of HWY 50. Its about a mile or two east of the elk creek marina on Blue Mesa reservoir. They have little cabins to rent, then you could eat at the restaurant above the boat ramp at elk creek.

I second the Wanderlust. The owner is also a climber and can give you good beta on other local areas (taylor canyon, etc.).

Wanderlust is your best bet if you're headed to the South Rim... if not then you'll prolly be coming through Carbondale, correct? In which case there isn't anything near the North Rim... something in Paonia maybe
