Anyone been on the DP lately? I'm wondering what springs are still flowing.

Just did Indian Head, Twin, and Sugarloaf on Labor Day. Creek at Devil's Notch lean-to is active; not that far out of the way from the junction. If you want to just go up Jimmy Dolan, you're out of luck. Nothing on Indian Head or Twin, as is normal. Both springs are flowing at Mink Hollow, although you might have to wander a bit to find the flow above the creekbed. Notch Lake in Stony Clove is sunken, algae-filled, and nasty-smelling.

Hope this helps.

What he said.

With the recent rainfall there is plenty of water to find, just springs are few and far between.

Thanks guys, although I've come and gone. We did the DP E-W in 9 hours on 9/1, finding surprisingly few hikers out for a nice Saturday on a holiday weekend. Are the Cats always that quiet? I've never been trail running or hiking there before.

We filled up in the creek on the ascent of Plateau, and then again at Diamond Notch Falls. With nothing in the middle and warm weather, I think two fills of 100oz each was just right, as I wouldn't want to drink less in the heat, or carry any more water at once, especially on the steeper ups or runnable sections.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
