Wow I'm over half way through the posts on 14ers. If any of the rescuers are ever in Vegas please PM me, the next few rounds are on me. Awesome effort. So happy to see this end well for Missy.

The original thread (the one that I think you are reading) is now locked. There is another thread on 14ers with updates. In that one, someone claiming to know Anthony posts up to defend him and says that "He loved this Dog almost as much as his Child." So, i guess he would have left his child to die on a mountain too. Amazingly pitiful how some folks just don't get it! Again, good on the rescuers and I hope Anthony NEVER gets the dog!

Wow I just finished reading the full 46 pages on 14ers. Again awesome job done by the volunteers. I really hope that huge legal action is taken again this man and he never gets his dog back.

Reading all the posts from the owner's family and friends, they all miss the point. People understand that you may have to abandon a pet to save a human, however after he saved the teenager he did nothing. If I ever had to leave my dog to save a person you bet your ass I would be right back on the trail with food water and shelter the second everyone else was safe. Brakes my hart thinking about my dog in that situation.

Cant wait to get home and squeeze my mutt. Again big respect to the rescuers, real classy individuals.

5 hours later...

Wow your dog is probably a faster reader than you. That's probably not surprising to you.

Did those 46 pages work you into a frothy frenzy?

Looks like they did..

Yeah, let's get this guy! Lawyers! Cops! Courtrooms! Throw away the key.

And if there was a war, you'd be on the front lines.

I'd rethink that post, or have an admin pull it.

--> cool.

This is being handled in an official capacity. Let's let cooler heads prevail here. The dog is fine.

What a great partner. Wonder how many humans he has left for dead?

"trying" not to be too judgemental (very hard), I can't think of a job that would cause me to bail on my dog. What boss wouldn't understand??

If I did have to leave, I'd be back up there the next day with anyone I could get to build a litter, bring a tent or you name it. I don't care if I had to put him over my shoulder.

There's no way I could go to work knowing I left a best friend behind.

when you see a talus field or especially loose, small scree, you should ask yourself, should i continue with my dog? the answer should be yes only if you have protective booties and are sure your dog will physically be fine. it's hard to say how many choice words i've let fly at idiots who deem it a small matter that their dog's pads are bleeding profusely amongst the rocks.

this guy should lose his dog as it is clear to me he can barely take care of himself.

My dog once followed me up loose talus after I thought she had turned around with my wife and parents. I was shocked to see her at the top of the mountain (3rd class). She cut her paws and was not enjoying herself anymore. I threw her on my shoulder and walked about a mile down the mountain with her like that. I found a longer but easier descent. It took about a week for my legs to recover, but worth it. I just wish I had waited longer to make sure she really had turned around, and felt bad for her until her paws healed.

Mainly I am happy that the dog is going to be all right.

The thing I find more disturbing is that this guy has a kid, who witnessed all this, who likely gets treated like the dog on a daily basis. I think the strong reaction over this particular incident is based more on everyone's own little abandonments they've experienced in their own lives. In this context, some of the reactions seem to say more than probably intended.
I dunno about that..I probably like animals more than most people, and often I'm sure the feeling is mutual. ;o)

The dude should be charged with animal abuse! What a dumbass! No way he should get his dog back or be an owner of any other animal. Not only irresponsible but cruel living creature treatment.
