Is Montbell the only company these days making sleeping bags with stretch?

Stretch would compress insulation. Why on earth would you want your sleeping bag to stretch?

Sierra Designs has been making them for a long time now, still make some models. You can pretty much tell which hvae the "flex" tech by looking at them, they're more "crinkly" looking:

I got some buddies that work for sierra and I "believe" they just updated a lot of their bags as well.

I believe Montbell licenses the design from Sierra Designs.

yeah-montbell and sierra designs are the only two that make them. i have a Brand new montbell 15 degree ultralight (800 down) for sale if your interested. I own western mountaineering and just prefer them instead. The stretch is nice though-and does allow for more layering options.

I am a side sleeper and flip around a lot unfortunately. Stretch in almost all of my clothing is now required and I'm thinking I would dig it in a sleeping bag as well.

I use Mont-bell and it's a fantastic sleeping bag! Get the superstretch, not just the stretch. They offer them in 800-fill, 650-fill, and synthetic. I have a #1 650-fill and use it year round (but I sleep cold).

Same here. I've got two montbell stretch bags and love them.

Get a sleeping bag that is a tall. That may give you some extra room to flip or whatever else you want to do in there.

I am 6'0 and it sounds like a tall is recommended from some of the reviews.

I like this one.

Expensive. For the money you could buy a WM.

FWIW, I have a Sierra Designs bag my parents bought in 1970 at the SD store in Berkeley that is still going strong. Since the SD equivalent costs less and it is their design, I would probably look there first.

I agree with making sure to get the superstretch or the u.l. super spiral. I have two of them for use in different temps and they are great, worth the extra money. People are jealous when I can sit comfortably at camp cross-legged in colder weather and stay completely inside the bag - it's way warmer. I disagree with the need to get a long bag, though. I'm 6'0" also, and both of my bags are the regular length. I have plenty of room in them and also flip around a lot while sleeping. Unless you're planning on stuffing items in the bottom of your bag while sleeping I'm not sure why you'd need the extra space and extra weight.

By scanning the Internet once a week or so for prices/sales I was able to get good deals on both of my bags without having to wait too very long.

I love everything about my montbell -30 s.s. lg if the reg was 1" longer i would have gotten it but the long is nice when its -20 crawl down in I feel like 2could fit in the bag comfortably. I think the Mb warranty is better than westerns as well?

Not that it matters, but I the stretch is a Montbell design that SD licenses for its "Flex" bags: google.com/patents/US7900301. The older SD stretchy bags must have been made with elastic thread or something instead of relying of the orientation of the fabric.

They show up on Geartrade relatively frequently if you're willing to wait/search for ~40% off retail: geartrade.com/search/result…
