Anyone up around here? I'm in North Central, but I guess there's some good bouldering down in Hinckley and if you wanna go down to KY to Red River there's that, too. I guess Hocking Hills has some decent spots, but right now I'm sticking to the gym in Cleveland because 1: I'm new and don't know anyone that climbs outside and 2: I'm not aware of any places near by.
Grew up a few miles from Whipps Ledges. Have not climbed everything there since I didnt start climbing until I was going to college. But it is a nice place and I go back there most evry time I go home now. Not sure what the deal is with permits but I have not had any trouble any times I have gone there. There are no bolts. Most all routes are top ropable but there are some trad lines too if you are looking to lead. Nothing really higher than 40' or so. There are some fun boulder problems. Also fun place to hike around as far as northern Ohio goes. On weekends, expect some hiking crowds with varying respect for the outdoors. Worth going to if you have a fair amount of webbing and know how to set up top anchors or if you are just looking to boulder.
Bouldering in Brecksville is pretty good you just have to search for it. Look around here and rockclimbing.com for posts about it. It's called the Brecksville Nature Center. Just park along the road that goes through the park and hike down towards the creek.
